Every year, UConn’s Materials Advantage Chapter (UCMA) holds an election to appoint new officers to the executive board. This year’s UCMA election resulted in the reelection of four exemplary officers and the addition of five new officers. Those new to the executive board include Joe Tracy, Grace Quinlan, Alex Perkins, Kienan Tierney and Justin Hewitt. The officers and ranks for this semester are as follows:

President: Kenna Ritter
Vice President: Hetal Patel
Secretary: Brittany Nelson
Treasurer: Jordan Gomes
Outreach Chair: Joe Tracy
Social Chair: Grace Quinlan
Underclassmen Representative: Alex Perkins
Media Chair: Kienan Tierney
Fundraising Chair: Justin Hewitt

Along with the five new officers, UCMA also added two new positions to the executive board including Media Chair and Fundraising Chair. The Media Chair will be responsible for taking pictures at UCMA events and helping manage the UCMA website with support of the MSE webmaster, while the Fundraising Chair’s role will consist of raising funds to support UCMA activities and events.

As for the group’s plans, Kenna Ritter said, “This semester we still have a lot to prepare for including a tour of Swagelok and Saint Gobain, the MSE Banquet in April and all of our fun UCMA meetings.” The team looks forward to further promoting their organization and providing valuable resources to MSE students.

The UCMA student chapter is a premier organization for students who want to advance their knowledge and experience in materials science and engineering. The chapter focuses on outreach and skills for professional development. Materials Advantage membership is open to any student and includes many materials-related advantages from the national material advantage organization, as well as the local UConn chapter.
