ALL SEMESTERS
Enroll in MSE graduate courses and/or research (research recommended but not mandatory)
Full-time students register for MSE 6401 (1 credit)
Students typically take 7-13 credits per term (depending on other responsibilities)
SEMESTER 1
- Discuss research interests with faculty
- Begin work in research group
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0
SEMESTER 2
Form an advisory committee
- Choose 1 major advisor and 2 associate advisors

SEMESTER 3 AND BEYOND
- Continue to take graded courses toward your degree
- Submit Plan of Study to the Graduate School (after 18 credits completed) http://grad.uconn.edu/current-students/forms/
- Upon Plan of Study approval by Graduate School, prepare thesis
- Complete 15 graded course credits (12 must be in MSE) and 9 graded research credits (MSE 5950)
FINAL DEFENSE

- Apply for graduation in Peoplesoft during last semester
- Announce final defense 2 weeks in advance on UConn and MSE event calendar
- Provide thesis to advisory committee 2 weeks in advance of defense
- Defend thesis and obtain signatures of advisory committee

Submit 1 electronic copy of thesis to Digital Commons
Submit completed thesis submission checklist, 1 signed approval page, and final exam form
- Complete IMS clearance form includes: submitting pdf of thesis, returning keys.
